As a business owner, there are a few things you can do each and every day that will help you reach your long-term potential, as an owner and as a business. By taking the time to make a real culture change in how you approach each day, you can make a real difference to the success of your company.
Start the Day Right – Even if you don’t feel at your most effective first thing in the morning it is important to get into a routine of something positive and productive when you wake up. This can take the shape of going for a run or a walk, writing in your diary or taking time out to sip a coffee and relax before heading to work.
Review Your To-Do-List – It is easy to get caught up in the little tasks that can clog up a day and end the day without achieving what you’d set out to complete. First thing in the office you should review your to-do-list and mark 3-5 of the most important tasks, that you can realistically achieve that day.
Create Clear Plans – By creating a clear plan of action for the long-term you can easily transfer that to daily plans that help the whole business moving along in the right direction, without getting side-tracked.
Learn to Delegate – Look at the tasks that take up most of your time, you know, the ones that keep you away from what you’re good at and enjoy. If you can delegate those tasks, either to an employee or outsourced to a virtual assistant, it can help you achieve your longer-term goals at a faster rate.
Make Time for Reflection and Relaxation – As the owner of a business you will work longer hours than your employees, that’s a given. With that in mind, it is vital that you take time out during the day to reflect on the tasks completed and ones to come, and to relax and completely switch off for a short time. Turn off your phone and emails and come back after an hour’s lunch or a short afternoon break, feeling refreshed, energised and ready to attack the rest of the day head on.
