Pinterest defines itself as follow:
“Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard.
Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.”
As a business, Pinterest will allow you to tell your story in pictures, connect with your followers, send traffic to your site and analyse your offering. Remember, the saying “Pictures paint a thousand words”.
Pinterest now offers a host of resources specifically created for businesses. If you already have an account, you can convert it into a business account here.
If you don’t yet have a Pinterest account, you should consider having one. Figures show that 47% of u.s. online consumers have made a purchase based on recommendations from Pinterest. Set-up is very quick, you can register here.
Once registered, you will need to create your profile. Choose a picture which will represent you and your brand. Remember to fill in the description which could include your keywords. Verify your website, it will let users know that you are who you say you are. Once your site is verified, you’ll see a tick next to the address.
Once you’re up and running, you can start creating your boards. This is your chance to show what you and your business care about. What interests and inspires you. They don’t all have to be work related and some can even be fun. Think outside the box!
At Keepoint, we love cookies and cupcakes so we’ve got a cookie board and a cupcake one. We always treat ourselves on a Friday!
Use your boards to go into more details about your product and services. Highlight weekly offers, season specials and so on. Another great way to use Pinterest is to highlight things your customers would find useful and interesting.
Because we love Social Media, we’ve got boards dedicated to all the major social media channels. They’re full of infographics and handy articles.
Pinterest also allows you to invite your followers to pin on your boards. You can create boards to run competitions (Pin to win), get feedback from your clients and so on.
Remember to promote your pins on the other Social Media platforms. Tweet about them, add a Pinterest Tab to your Facebook page and so on.
Once you’re all done, remember to add a Pin It button to your site and your blog which will allow others to pin anything they like to their boards and share it with their followers. Pinterest also offers profile and board widgets which can easily be added to your site, take advantage of them!
